The Secession Golf Club

Geoffrey J. “Geoff” Block is the founder and manager of a real estate investment firm that owns and operates single-tenant, multi-family residential, RV parks, shopping centers, and assisted living facilities in Bluffton, South Carolina. A former Wall Street executive and an avid golfer Geoff Block is a Southeastern United States Secession Golf Club member.

Secession Golf Club is a private golf course located at 100 Islands Causeway, Beaufort, South Carolina. The course opened in 1992 and was designed by Pete Dye and Bruce Delvin. Pete, a renowned golf designer who helped create some of the most famous US golf clubs, did the first 13 holes of the Secession Golf Club course. Following a disagreement on how the construction of the course should proceed, Pete left, and Bruce, an Australian professional golfer, and an equally good golf course designer, took over and completed the course.

The 18-hole golf course, which Golf Digest has ranked as one of the 200 greatest US courses for eight years in a row since 2013, was built mainly on a marsh area, and several of its holes are on an island. Its greens are largely flat, and it is in an isolated area with no houses or properties around.

The club has a walk-only policy, which allows golfers and their caddies to take in the breathtaking natural views around the course during a round. Succession Golf Club has about 900 members, and its clubhouse has a porch that gives patrons great views of the final holes of the course. The clubhouse also has a special area for honoring fallen members and those that died on 9/11.
